Today we are highlighting one of my hands down, all-time favorite indie artisans: Imaginary Authors. A perfume company with some seriously clever branding, I first discovered Imaginary Authors at Renegade Craft in San Francisco. They currently have eight original scents, with names like Bull’s Blood, L’Orchidee Terrible and Violet Disguise, which are available in both large 60 ml bottles and very affordable 2 ml sample sizes.
Each unique scent is paired with an ‘imaginary author’, a fictional character invented by the owners of Imaginary Authors, complete with an antique photograph, birth and death dates and a mini biography. Each scent also comes with an explanation of when it should be worn, with suggestions like “beach bonfires, first dates, party crashing, or simply barhopping alone on a rainy night” and “cloudy days to invoke the ardor of summer.”
My Imaginary Authors scent is Memoirs of a Trespasser, paired with the fictional author Philip Sava. It has notes of “Madagascar Vanilla, Guaiacwood, Myrrh, Benzoin Resin, Ambrette Seeds & Oak Barrels” and I’m almost never without a spritz of it!
